Suntrap Garden

Suntrap Open Day

What a great day we had for the Open Day, the sun shone all day.

We had over 400 visitors and raised £700 for Perennial, Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society.

The highlight of the day however, was the visit by the Lord and Lady Provost who came for a one hour visit and enjoyed it so much they stayed for two.

Thank you to everyone for their help and support in making this such a great day.

Suntrap Garden Open Day – Sunday 23 May 2010 – 10.30 am to 4.00 pm

Everyone has been busy preparing for our annual charity Open Day, which again this year is being held in support of Perennial, Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society.

Our students, with learning difficulties, from local Day Centres,  have been busy planting up containers and hanging baskets.  As you can see they’re resting in the Mist House until they’re ready to go on display

and the beetle from last year’s Gardening Scotland arrived yesterday

just in time for us to plant it up for our big day.

Why not come along and join us.

It’s a great day out.

As we begin to get ready for the big day we will post more news.

What a great day….

out we had at Gardening Scotland on Friday. A bit wet in the rain but it didn’t stop us touring the show gardens, spending lots of time in the Exhibition Hall and buying some new plants.

We also came away with a few certificates from the Pallet Garden Competition.

Silver Gilt for Stewart and the pupils at Glencryan School for their bog garden theme.

Gold for Cedarbank for their pallet garden – “The Living Organ” and all the healthy fruit and vegetables you can grow. They use their vegetables to make Soup for their lunch every Wednesday.

Pinewood also won a gold for their garden “The Outdoor Classroom” which was full of lots of interesting plants and herbs. They also won second in show for the group category but were pipped out of first place by this brilliant garden based on Peter Rabbit and aptly called “Mr McGregor’s Garden”

A big thank you to everyone

We just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who came along on Sunday and supported our Open Day, that includes all exhibitors, volunteers and of course the general public.

It was a beautiful day, the weather couldn’t have been better. We had more visitors to the garden than we’ve ever had and it’s good to know that the gate money is going to such a good cause as Perennial, the Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society.

We also sold lots of plants and I particularly like this clematis which grows in the Sensory Garden,

The children’s games were a big hit,

But for some people that was too energetic and they just lay in the sun
